Broncs drop final football game

The Broncs football team dropped its final game of the season, a 50-0 loss at Beloit in the first round of the state playoffs.

Beloit (5-4) hosted as the No. 2-seed from District 8, while Lakin (4-5) traveled as the 3-seed from District 7.

On a chilly night, neither team scored in the opening quarter. The next two quarters, however, told a different story.

The Trojans scored three times in the second quarter to take a 24-0 halftime lead.

They added 26 more points in the third period to account for the rest of Beloit’s scoring as the defense shut down the Lakin offense.

Beloit scored four touchdowns on running plays and two more via the pass.

Lakin ran 52 plays but gained just 96 total yards—34 passing and 62 running. 

Beloit ran 41 plays and amassed 429 total yards—188 with the pass and 241 on the ground.

Beloit had 14 first downs to Lakin’s five.

The Broncs were called for nine penalties for 50 yards while the Trojans were flagged twice for 16.

Maddux Beltran was 5-of-7 through the air for 34 yards.

Colter Oldham had 15 carries for 28 yards, while Lucas McCombs had two carries for 25.

Oldham had two catches for 21 yards.

Oldham led the team with eight tackles and three assists.

Ross Rider had one fumble recovery.
