The Broncs dropped their final regular season game in tough fashion, a 46-40 loss in four overtimes at Larned.

The loss means the Broncs finished third in district play and will travel to Beloit Friday.

Lakin got on the board first after a fumble on Larned’s opening possession gave the Broncs the ball. A 77-yard touchdown run by Maddux Beltran on a quarterback keeper gave Lakin an early 8-0 lead.

Larned then scored two straight times to take a 16-8 lead, the second on a 26-yard pass play.

Latin closed the first-half scoring with a 58-yard run by Ross Rider up the visiting sideline, and the Broncs trailed at half 16-14.

The Broncs took a 22-16 lead midway into the third period when Colter Oldham raced up his own sideline 44 yards for a touchdown.

Larned tied the game at 22-22 just into the fourth quarter (10:45) on a short run.

Following a Lakin fumble, Larned moved the ball deep into Broncs territory but turned the ball over on downs at the 5-yard line. However, both teams failed to score in their final possessions, sending the game into overtime.

Larned got the ball first in overtime and scored on a desperation throw into the end zone, taking a 28-22 lead.

On Lakin’s ensuing possession, scored on a fourth-and-one carry by Oldham, but the PAT kick attempt failed on a bad snap.

Beltran scored on an end around on the first play of the second overtime, but the two-point conversion run was short.

Larned tied the game at 34-34 on a quarterback keeper, but the Lakin defense stopped the conversion.

In overtime three, the Indians scored on a 5-yard run to take a 40-34 lead.

Lakin answered with a 10-yard Oldham run, but the potential game-winning pass for two came up short.

In the fourth and final overtime, Larned’s defense stopped Lakin on four downs. 

On the Indians’ ensuing drive, on third down and two, a quarterback keeper got the 46-40 win.

Larned improved to 7-1 (2-1 in district) to finish second in the district race. Lakin fell to 4-4 (1-2) to finish third.

Lakin had 386 yards in total offense, with 370 of that on the ground. Larned had 352 yards.

Lakin turned the ball over four times, including three fumbles. Larned had one fumble.

Larned was flagged for eight penalties (54 yards) and Lakin nine (41 yards).
