A promising start did not carry through the game Friday as Lakin fell to Colby 20-14 at home.

After grabbing a 14-0 lead, the Lakin offense stalled and Colby took advantage.

Colter Oldham got the Broncs on the board with a 3-yard run at 6:51 in the opening quarter.

Ross Rider scored the second Bronc touchdown at 11:51 in the second on a 25-yard run.

That would be it for Lakin scoring.

On the ensuing series, Colby scored on a short run and then again on a pass play midway into the second quarter. Both points-after-touchdown attempts failed, however, and Lakiin still held a 14-12 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, with 31 remaining, the Eagles scored on a 20-yard pass play and made the 2-point conversion to take the 20-14 lead.

Lakin had a final attempt to score late in the fourth but an interception in the red zone put an end to that.

Lakin outgunned the Eagles 286 yards to 183, but they turned the allover on three fumbles and one interception..

The Broncs also committed 13 penalties to Colby’s five.

Oldham had 162 yards rushing on 28 carries and Rider had 50 on four carries.

Javion Granado had six tackles and aside on four. The team had four tackles for losses.

Lakin fell to 4-3 with the loss, with a district game at Larned Friday to end the regular season and determine post-season play. Both Lakin and Larned are tied for second at 2-1 in the district.
