The football team made homecoming night special when they defeated Cimarron 44-20.


Down 12-6 in the first quarter, Lakin scored five touchdowns to take a commanding 44-12 lead late in the game.


Armando Salcido got the Broncs on the board first when he sprinted in for a 23-yard run.


Cimarron scored on the ensuing kickoff, a 71-yard run to tie the game. The Bluejays took the lead 12-6 on a 4-yard play.


That’s when the Broncs got things going.


Homecoming king Maddux Beltran scored from a yard out to give Lakin a 14-12 lead at the quarter break.


Colter Oldham scored from three yards and Beltran from one to give the Broncs a 28-12 halftime lead.


In the fourth quarter, Salcido scored on a 32-yard play and Oldham scored from 39 yards to cap the Lakin scoring.


Oldham had a monster game, rushing 32 times for 241 yards, including a 43-yarder.


Ross Rider had eight carries for 73 yards, and Salcido had six carries for 68.


Beltran completed one of his two pass attempts, an 11-yard play to Salcido.


Rider led the team with 10 tackles. Oldham had four, including a sack. Jeremy Oropeza also had eight tackles.


Rider, Oldham, and Alex Robles each had an interception, and Rider grabbed one fumble.


Lakin had 399 total yards to just 199 for the Bluejays. The Broncs’ had 388 rushing yards.


Lakin had 23 first downs to Cimarron’s 11. The Broncs were flagged for 12 penalties (149 yards) to Cimarron’s seven (77 yards).


The Broncs, 3-1, travel to Southwestern Heights Friday.
