Davis, Esquibel named league POY

   Hunter Davis and Jaya Esquibel were both voted the Hi-Plains League players of the year.
   Davis led the Broncs to an 18-5 record. The junior averaged 19.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists a game.
   He hit 31 three-pointers, dished out 126 assists and had 37 steals.
   He also hit 141 of 184 free throws.
   Esquibel averaged 17.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game.
   She shot 48 percent from the floor, making 58 three-pointers. She also sank 57 of 75 free throws.
   Esquibel had 71 rebounds and 44 assists, as well as 53 steals.
   Joining Davis on the first team were senior Sonnie Altman and junior Dom Daniels.
   Altman averaged 10.9 points and 5.2 rebounds a game, while Daniels averaged 10 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists a game.
   Jace Bachman was named to the second team. The junior averaged 10.5 points a game. He was also 77 of 188 from three-point range.
   Lakin won the league regular season title and the league tournament title.
   Making the girls' second team were juniors Talyn Beltran and Tiana Gonzalez.
   Beltran averaged 9.1 points and six rebounds per game.
   Gonzalez averaged 8.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists a game, as well as 60 totals steals.
   Beltran led the team with 127 rebounds, and Gonzalez followed with 110.
