Boys win semifinal over Holcomb

   In a tight battle, the Lakin Broncs moved into the sub-state finals with an 80-71 win over Holcomb at Cimarron on Thursday in the Class 3A sub-state tournament.

   The teams ended the first period tied at 20 with the Broncs starting with four straight 3-pointers, and a last-second basket gave the Broncs a 41-39 lead at halftime.

   Lakin led 58-53 heading into the final quarter.

   Leading just 70-68 with 1:40 to play in the game, the Broncs scored on a layup and then an Allen Martinez 3-pointer to go up 75-68 to pull away for the win.

   Five Broncs scored double figures, led by Hunter Davis’ 17.

   Dom Daniels added 13 points, and Jace Bachman Martinez had 12 each.

   Servando Gonzalez added 10.

   The Broncs hit 24 field goals, including 15 3-pointers. They were also 18 of 24 from the free throw line.

   Holcomb hit 22 field goals with nine 3-pointers. They were 18 of 25 from the line.

   In Saturday’s finals, the Broncs (18-4) face Colby (15-7),  who defeated Hugoton 49-48 in the other semifinal game.
