Boys win first round

Just as they did to the end the regular season, the Broncs boys won in a big way to open sub-state play, taking out Goodland 75-55 at home Monday.
The top-seed Broncs turned a close 33-30 halftime lead into an easy win with a strong second half that saw the defense hold the Cowboys to just four field goals.
Lakin held a 13-12 lead after the first period and Goodland kept the game close through halftime.
But Servando Gonzalez hit three of his six 3-pointers and eight of his 20 points in the third period, and Hunter Davis added seven of his team-high 21 points to give the Broncs a 58-42 lead after three.
Goodland scored 11 of its 13 fourth-quarter points at the free throw line, while the Broncs scored all 17 of their points from the field, including a trio of treys.
Lakin hit 29 field goals, 15 of them from beyond the arc. They were 2 of 9 from the free throw line.
Goodland hit 21 field goals (four 3-pointers) and were 17 of 25 from the line.
Lakin (17-4) will face Holcomb (13-8), one of the teams to beat the Broncs this season, in the sub-state semifinal Thursday in Cimarron.
