Girls upset Elkhart
In front of a home crowd Tuesday, the Lakin girls picked up a big win, 50-39, over the league's top-ranked team, Elkhart.
Jaya Esquibel hit three 3's and scored 11 of her game-high 17 points in the opening quarter as the Broncs took a 21-9 lead.
They led 33-16 at halftime. The Wildcats cut that to 40-33 at the end of the third period, but the Lakin defense held them to just six points in the final period to get the win.
Lakin hit 16 field goals, including five 3-pointers. They were also 13 of 22 from the line.
Talyn Beltran added 10 points and Taegan Bachman nine in the win.
