Lady Broncs Fall to Cimarron

Cimarron 57, Lakin 50


Cimarron held off host Lakin 57-50 to win the first round of the Hi-Plains League tournament.

Tied at 43-all with 5:12 to play, the Bluejays held Lakin scoreless for over four minutes to secure the win.

The Broncs held a 15-14 lead after the first quarter, but Cimarron took a 27-23 halftime lead.

The Jays hit 11 of 22 free throws in the final quarter as the Broncs were forced to foul.

For the game, Cimarron was 19 of 34 from the line, while the Broncs were 8 of 9.

Four Jays scored in double figures, with McKayla Miller leading with 14.

Jacee Wilson had 13, Melody Carter 12 and Emily Acton 11.

Lakin got 26 points from Jaya Esquibel, including off six of the Broncs’ 3-pointers.

Tiana Gonzalez added 10.
