Lakin USD #215 is calling for nominations for Teacher of the Year. The school district will be recognizing a teacher from PK-6 and 7-12 divisions. The winning teacher in each division will be recognized locally and have the opportunity to move on to the state level for the Kansas Teacher of the Year competition. Nominations may be made by students, parents, staff members and/or community members. A nomination should consist of a one page statement as to why the teacher should be selected as Teacher of the Year. A committee consisting of a teacher from each building, a site council member from each building and a board member will serve as the selection committee. In addition, Lakin USD #215 would like to recognize our classified staff as well. Classified Staff of the Year will be recognized in two categories: instructional (paras) and non-instructional (secretaries, custodians, bus drivers). Nominations can be submitted to the District Office at 1003 West Kingman, Lakin, KS 67860 or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. All nominations must be submitted by February 21, 2020 by 4pm. Winners will be announced on Monday, March 16, 2020.

LHS Forensics competed well in Scott City yesterday! The Broncs finished 4th as a team, 2 points out of bringing home hardware! LMS Outdoor Classroom: It has been brought to my attention that the community has questions about the new outdoor learning space at LMS. This project is completely funded by a grant. It was designed and is being built by students at LHS/LMS. The purpose is to have an organized place, where learning can occur outdoors. The MS stock the store drive was successful last week! We collected over 645 items for our store! The eighth graders pulled off a come from behind win on the last day, bringing 292 items throughout the week. Thank you to Dollar General for the use of your grocery carts during the week. We will always take donations. If you have old stuff that your kids are done with or have outgrown and there is still good in it.....please bring it our way!

Everyone's invited to the USD 215 Veterans Day Assembly at 10:00 am in the LMS gym next Monday November 11th. We have a special ceremony planned with several special announcements. I hope to see everyone there! We will feed the veterans and their spouses after the ceremony.
LMS has started their stock the store drive this week. Austin bought a pair of track spikes last week from the store and came back today with 4 pairs of shoes that he is donating to the store! AWESOME job Austin. The store will take anything. If you have junk laying around your house, it might be a treasure to someone here at the middle school! We are always taking donations!
USD #215 will host an open house on Tuesday, November 5, from 5-6PM to tour the facilities. We realize that community input is crucial as we work to upkeep and modernize our facilities. Areas to check out include the GS playground, the HS gym and rubber gym, auditorium.

STOCK THE STORE DRIVE! The MS is starting a thrift shop and we are looking for donations to fill the store. We will take anything! Gloves, hats, toothpaste, toothbrushes, PENCILS!!!, canned food, shampoo, conditioner, old track spikes, games, DEODORANT!, literally ANYTHING! The thrift store employees are organizing a STOCK THE STORE drive next week, November 4-8. They are collecting these things, but will take ANYTHING!! We will be having a fun competition between grades, but we hope the community will help us to STOCK OUR STORE as well! We will take new or used items. The junk that is in your house that you don’t know what to do with....we will take it!! THANK YOU to everyone that has already donated, the kids are loving it and are so proud of themselves for purchasing things they actually need!

The MS “bank” is up and running!! Kids are opening checking accounts, depositing “money” that they have earned in school, making withdrawals, cashing checks, checking their online bank statement, and everything else that comes with a checking account. Thank you to Kearny County Bank for helping purchase our fake money and cash boxes! We are learning a lot from this experience!

MS volleyball finished their regular season in Cimarron tonight. The A team won and had an undefeated regular season, the B team beat Cimarron who had beat them earlier in the season, and the C team lost in the third set but played a good game and showed much improvement.

He even brought the colored pencils to go with the mural he created! The other two students helped him get the mural to my office. Very cool!
There will be a HS Pep Bus on Friday for those who have signed up and paid. The bus will leave from the HS parking lot at 5:30 PM. The $5 you paid will get you into the game. Go Broncs!
