We will not be able to make up the Jan 7 MS BB game vs Syracuse. Instead we will travel to Wiley, CO on Jan 18th. Since we do not have school that day and they only have one gym, the first game will be at 1:00 MTN. Their MS is not a part of the CSHAA so they will follow the same policies as KSHSAA. We will play a full A girls/boys, 2 quarters of B girls and a full B boys.
Due to CSHAA requirements, the Feb 13 HS game vs Wiley, CO has been moved to Lakin so we will not have to wear masks during play. Games will start at 3:30 CT. We will have to wait until they start practice on Jan 18 to determine if they can play JV/C or not.
Both updates have been made to the online calendar.

Lakin HS is looking for a head cross country coach for the 2021-22 school year to oversee the HS/MS boys and girls programs. Please contact Athletic Director, Nate Schmitt by phone at 620-521-2069 or by email at nate.schmitt@usd215.org if you are interested. #getBETTER

LHS Seniors: This week is a great time to work on your local scholarship requirements! Check out the packet you received from Mrs. Scheer and/or Senior Advisory Google Classroom for more info! Due Jan 29th!

The Jan 7 MS BB games vs Syracuse have been postponed due to the new KSHSAA moratorium. We are working on a make-up date. The Jan 9 HS BB games vs Wichita Co are still on as scheduled, but it will NOT be Throwback Night due to Covid protocol that needs to be followed. Senior Night and Homecoming are still up in the air. We are hopeful there will be some changes made after the Jan 28 date to increase the limit of spectators. We will make a decision soon after that.

The Laking High School FFA program and the USD 215 Board of Education extend our sincere appreciation to the Edgington Family for their generous donation of $30,000 for the purchase and installation of a Greenhouse to be used by the FFA program. FFA Sponsor Mrs. Jennifer Wright stated, "This will create exciting new learning opportunities for our kids and we are extremely anxious to get started."
Pictured are Rodney and Ashley Edgington along with Mrs. Wright and a few FFA students.

Lakin High School Parents and caregivers,
After consultation with county health officials and consideration of the high number of students in quarantine as well as those with active Covid-19 cases we have decided Lakin High School will move to remote learning beginning Thursday, November 19th. Tomorrow, Wednesday, will be a preparation day for staff so students will not be required to attend school or live stream into classes.. Students will return to a face to face environment after Thanksgiving break.
Breakfast and lunch will be available for students to pick up. Parents, please call and notify the high school office if you will be picking up a breakfast or lunch so we can have an accurate count.
This will not have an impact on Extra Curricular activities. They will move forward as scheduled.
This effects the high school only. Grade school and middle school students will remain in a face to face learning environment.

Please check your school email in regards to an important zoom meeting I will host at 1:30 today.

The MS wrestling team was at Hays yesterday battling Hays and Great Bend. It was a rough day but we learned a lot about what we need to do to get where we want to be. Alex Robles continues to be undefeated going 2-0, Alex Luce suffered his first loss of the year going 1-1, and David Ezeigbo picked up his first ever win going 1-1. The rest of the team worked hard but come up short. The Bronc MS team will be in action next Thursday at Kennith Henderson MS in Garden City at 4:00pm.

On Tuesday, October 20th the USD 215 Board of Education voted to suspend health and temperature checks at the start of the school day. After 40 days of school we have learned those checks are of little value in monitoring the health of our students for a variety of reasons. The temperature checks had not identified a single fever and with the onset of cold weather were consistently reading low. The Board concluded it will be more effective to rely on parents to monitor the health of their students and to instruct staff to observe students for signs of illness in the classroom. We urge parents to keep their students home if they are sick and to contact a health care provider if they are exhibiting symptoms of Covid-19. We take the health of our students and the community seriously and are balancing those needs with the needs for students to remain in school. If you have any question regarding this change please contact your building principal.

Due to COVID, KSHSAA has limited attendance for Saturday’s Regional CC here in Lakin. Each school is limited to 4 spectators per runner. With that said, we will not be sending tickets or checking people in. With only 10 schools attending we are confident that we will not exceed the limit and can accommodate a few extra if we do. Also, since it is a KSHSAA post season event, masks will be required even though it is outdoors.

Due to COVID, KSHSAA has limited attendance for Saturday’s Sub State VB in Scott City. Each school is limited to 85 spectators. If you’d like to attend, please contact the HS office to sign up. You have to be on the list to attend. You will be able to pay when you get there. They have also asked that you arrive right before game time and leave immediately after. They will be cleaning between each round of games. MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED!
