LHS will be sending three students to the state music festival in Wichita Feb. 23-25.
Senior Christian Blackburn has once again made it to state in choir. This is his third year going.
Senior Jordan Garcia will be going as an alternate.
Senior Max Dunlap qualified for state band on tuba.
Students are eligible to make it to state only three years out of their high school career because freshmen are not able to qualify.
“This is really impressive,” said choir director Twyla Heinitz of her two students, Blackburn for making it in all three years and Garcia because this is his first year in choir.
For Dunlap, he had to have been of the District Honor Band, which he was in December. He will audition in Wichita for chair placement.
“Max put in a great deal of time and effort on this process and I'm proud of him
for that. He will certainly make the most of this opportunity,” said band director Shawn Martin.
Max traveled to Salina Central High School last month.
These students will join others from different classes around the state for three days of rehearsing with elite directors, then perform a final concert at different times that Saturday.
