2010 LMS Wrestling Team Rules

The following are some team rules to discuss with your Parent(s)/Guardian(s).  You are responsible to know and follow all team rules.  These rules are in conjunction with the student handbook and Board Policy.  Our goal is not to go out of our way to find violators, but to be consistent with all discipline issues, mat time, and the development of the total student-athlete.

Before practice begins you should:

  • Have a physical turned into the office and signed.
  • Pay your sports fee ($20).
  • Have insurance on record in the MS office.
  • All equipment from other sports must be turned in and/or paid for.
  • Be ready to work harder than “you think” you can work.

Practice:

  • You are expected to be at practice on time with all equipment you need.
  • Come to practice with a positive attitude and willing to work hard.  You will only make yourself better by being willing to listen and work hard.  Plus, being a good partner will help your teammates get better as well.  Just be ready to work hard and improve everyday!
  • Leave all jewelry in your locker (or at home).  You can not wrestle with it on.  The coaching staff will not be responsible for your jewelry.
  • Good hygiene is an essential part of good living.  Keep your practice clothes clean.  Take care of your skin by washing it thoroughly with soap.  Check your body often for ringworm as well.  If spotted, you must let your coach know.
  • You must attend at least four periods of school to be able to practice that day.  If you are pulled out of school for whatever reason, you must check in with the office before you come to practice.
  • You will not practice if you are not in “good standing” with the school.  You need to prioritize your schedule to accommodate for practice (i.e. “Get your school work done!”)
  • If you are late for practice, you will RUN.  You may or may not have a good excuse, whatever the reason you will run.  How much you run will be at the discretion of the coaches.  Plus, you’ll have to find your own ride to practice.  The bus will leave the school at 3:35.  If you are late or not on the bus, you will be left behind.  It will be up to you to find a ride.  Practice begins promptly at 3:45 PM.
  • Any practice missed, excused or un excused, must be made up.
  • Please keep your hair cut nice, neat, and out of your eyes.  Head gear is meant to be worn snuggly on the head.  Too much hair will allow it to slip.
  • Different situations occur every year.  The student-athletes’ best interest is our first priority.  We make every effort to be consistent and reasonable with discipline issues.

Matches:

  • Wrestlers are expected to dress appropriate for meet days (i.e. school issued equipment).  We will order Lakin wrestling T-shirts again.  They can wear them on meet days.  Be proud of your school colors.  Wear them!
  • Athletes are expected to wear the school issued uniforms in an appropriate manner.  Singlets are to be worn correctly, with no modifications.
  • All wrestlers (and coaches) are expected to address all officials in an appropriate manner (i.e. “Yes, sir.” “No, sir.”).  Manners are a must!  Be gracious when you win, and humble when you lose.
  • All wrestlers are expected to ride the bus to and from away meets, although parents may sign out their athlete to take home at the end of the meet.  However, prior approval for that athlete to be sent home with an adult, other than their parents, must be on file in the office.

Lettering policy:

  • A wrestler must participate in practice, attend meets, and finish the season in “good standing.”
  • Letters will be given to those wrestlers that meet all of the coaching staff and administration requirements.  Participation certificates may also be awarded.
  • The total student-athlete will be considered for letters.  The coaching staff and administration will have final say on all issues of lettering athletes.

Eligibility policy: Student-athletes at LMS must pass seven courses in order to be eligible to participate in extra curricular activities each nine-weeks.  However, it is the policy of the coaching staff to encourage student-athletes to keep their grades up by enforcing the following Weekly eligibility policy:

  1. Student-athletes must meet weekly eligibility requirements in order to play games each week.  Coaches will be provided with a list of all students who do not meet the academic requirements of all classes.  Athletes will be ineligible from Monday am to the following Monday am.
  2. Any athlete who is failing (has a 60% or below), will be required to serve morning study hall from 7:30 – 7:50 am Tuesday thru Friday in the coaches room.  Failure to show up in the morning will result in a detention to be served after school.  We encourage student-athletes to come to practice after serving their detention too.  They have to provide their own mode of transportation though as the bus will already have left the school.
  3. “Three strikes and you’re out!”  If the student-athlete is ineligible for any three weeks during the season, they will be asked to turn in their equipment and will not letter.

Parents:

  • Please rest assured that it is our (coaching staff, administration, USD 215) intent to develop the total student-athlete.  We expect all athletes to conduct themselves with the utmost respect in and out of the classroom.  Academics and attitudes must come first!!
  • The coaching staff and administration will use our best judgment in dealing with individual situations as they arise.
  • We appreciate your willingness to allow your athlete to participate in wrestling.  If you have concerns with anything that is going on with your child, please feel free to come and talk with ME (Coach Panzer).  I promise I will listen to your concerns and try to work with you regarding your concerns.
  • Please make every effort to have your athlete picked up by 5:30 pm on practice days (Except on Wednesdays; they will need to be picked up by 5:15 pm).  We will make every effort to be done by these times, too.  The bus will return to the MS or you are welcome come to the Fair Building.
  • Note all washing instructions for uniforms as well.

Once you have read the rules, please detach the bottom portion and give it to one of the coaches.  Thank you in advance for allowing us to share one of the greatest learning opportunities your child may go through in their lives.  We don’t expect every athlete to share the same passion of the sport as we do, but enthusiasm and hard work are encouraged.  They will be challenged to perform at a high level.

Student-Athlete, Parent/Guardians,

Please take some time to discuss these items with each other.  We are looking forward to a very successful and enjoyable wrestling season.  Your assistance and support in making sure these rules are followed is appreciated.
