"Shurely," We Can Do This!

Welcome Back! I’m truly excited about this upcoming year. This year we will be striving to meet many goals and expectations. One of the strategies to meet these goals and expectations is the Shurely Method. This is way of understanding sentence structure and writing good paragraphs. Here is a challenge for you: decode the following sentence. “Yesterday my mom and I swam at the pool.” If you have difficulty decoding this sentence, ask a sixth grader. :)
One of the first major projects that the fifth grade students will be doing in my English class is making a baseball card. This will give them an example of technical writing. In order for the students to learn how to write a technical piece, they first have to learn to recognize that text form. Hopefully, they will find this a fun way of learning.
The sixth graders will be decorating a flag about themselves. When finished with the flag they have to write a descriptive piece about each detail on the flag. This will be meeting another goal and expectation in our sixth grade curriculum.
Even with all the expectations and goals of this year, I believe we can “Shurely” do this! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email or call me at school or at home.
