The end of the school year is just around the corner. Everyone is busy trying to accomplish all of the goals that were set at the beginning of the year. Each teacher is trying to make sure that all of the students are prepared for next year.
In science, the students have been learning about magnets. They have worked on experiments to find out which objects were magnetic and which were non-magnetic. They did an experiment to determine which magnet was stronger. Also, the students participated in some free exploration activities just for fun.
In social studies, the students have been working on personal timelines. This was a family project that was completed at home with the help of their parents. The timelines turned out really cool! Anyone can stop by the grade school and view the timelines which will be displayed in the second grade hallway starting April 14th.
The students have been working extremely hard in math class. We have begun to learn multiplication. The students love it and are doing an awesome job learning their facts. The students continue to work on regrouping and carrying.
As a fun activity to help incorporate some of our math skills that we have learned over the past few months, the second graders will be doing a checkbook activity. They will learn how to write checks, balance a checkbook, and distinguish between their wants and needs. This should be a great real-world learning experience for them.
And finally in reading, the students continue to work towards their A.R. goals. Their reading levels continue to increase and their comprehension skills are getting better. Our reading series does a wonderful job of exposing the children to a wide variety of texts. They have read stories that are mainly narrative, expository, and technical. The students have even done a few technical writings as well. All of these experiences have helped the students become better readers and writers.
