2007 LMS Football Team Rules
The following are some team rules to discuss with your Parent(s)/Guardian(s). You are responsible to know and follow all team rules. These rules are in conjunction with the student handbook and Board Policy. Our goal is not to go out of our way to find violators, but to be consistent with all discipline issues, playing time, and the development of the total student-athlete.
Before practice begins you should:
* Have a physical turned into the office and signed.
* Pay your sports fee ($20).
* Have insurance on record in the MS office.
* All equipment from other sports must be turned in and/or paid for.
* Be ready to work harder than "you think" you can work.
Practice:
You are expected to be at practice on time with all equipment you need.
Leave all jewelry in your locker (or at home). You can not play with it on. The coaching staff will not be responsible for jewelry on the field.
Good hygiene is an essential part of good living. Keep your practice clothes clean.
You must attend at least four periods of school to be able to practice that day. If you are pulled out of school for whatever reason, you must check in with the office before you come to practice.
You will not practice if you are not in "good standing" with the school. You need to prioritize your schedule to accommodate for practice (i.e. "Get your school work done!")
If you are late for practice, you will RUN. You may or may not have a good excuse, whatever the reason you will run. How much you run will be at the discretion of the coaches.
Any practice missed, excused or un excused, must be made up. Playing time for that game will be taken away for all practices missed that week and not made up.
Please keep your hair cut nice, neat, and out of your eyes. The helmets are meant to be worn snuggly on the head. Too much hair will allow the helmet to slip.
Different situations occur every year. The student-athletes best interest is our first priority. We make every effort to be consistent and reasonable with our discipline issues.
Games:
Players are expected to dress appropriate for game days. We may order Lakin football t-shirts again. However, most of the times the players like to wear their uniform to school. They must be tucked in.
Athletes are expected to wear the school issued uniforms in an appropriate manner. Jerseys will be tucked in at all times.
We will promise no player playing time. Our best 11 eligible players at the time will play each down. The coaching staff will have final say on who those 11 players will be.
All players (and coaches) are expected to address all officials in an appropriate manner (i.e. "Yes, sir." "No, sir."). Manners are a must. Be gracious.
All players are expected to ride the bus to and from away games, although parents may sign out their athlete to take home at the end of the game. However, prior approval for that athlete to be sent home with an adult must be on file in the office.
Lettering policy:
A player must participate in practice, play in games, and finish the season in "good standing." Letters will be given to those players that meet all of the coaching staff and administration requirements. Provisional letters will be given to those that finish the season in good standing, but maybe didn't get as much game time.
The total student-athlete will be considered for letters. The coaching staff and administration will have final say on all issues of lettering athletes.
Eligibility policy:
Student-athletes at LMS must pass seven courses in order to be eligible to participate in extra curricular activities each nine-weeks. However, it is the policy of the coaching staff to encourage student-athletes to keep their grades up by enforcing the following Weekly eligibility policy:
Student-athletes must meet weekly eligibility requirements in order to play games each week. Coaches will be provided with a list of all students who do not meet the academic requirements of all classes. Athletes will be ineligible from Monday am to the following Monday am.
Any athlete who is failing (has a 60% or below), will be required to serve morning study hall from 7:30 - 7:50 am Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the room of the coach's choice. Failure to show up in the morning will result in a detention to be served after school. We encourage student-athletes to come to practice after serving their detention too.
"Three strikes and you're out!" If the student-athlete is ineligible for any three weeks during the season, they will be asked to turn in their equipment and will not letter.
Parents:
Please rest assured that it is our (coaching staff, administration, USD 215) intent to develop the total student-athlete. We expect all athletes to conduct themselves with the utmost respect in and out of the classroom. Academics must come first!!
The coaching staff and administration will use our best judgment in dealing with individual situations as they arise.
We appreciate your willingness to allow your athlete to participate in football. If you have concerns with anything that is going on with your student-athlete, please feel free to come and talk with ME (Coach Panzer). I promise I will listen to your concerns and try to work with you regarding your concerns.
Please make every effort to have your athlete picked up by 5:30 pm on practice days (Except on Wednesdays; they will need to be picked up by 5:15 pm). We will make every effort to be done by these times, too.
Note all washing instructions for practice and game uniforms.
Once you have read the rules, please detach the bottom portion and give it to one of the coaches. Thank you in advance for allowing us to share one of the greatest learning opportunities your child may go through in their lives. We don't expect every athlete to share the same passion of the game as we do, but enthusiasm and hard work are encouraged.

Student-Athlete, Parent/Guardians,
Please take some time to discuss these items with each other. We are looking forward to a very successful and enjoyable football season. Your assistance and support in making sure these rules are followed are appreciated.
