Middle School: Tech Lab

"Building firm foundations for challenging careers"

LMS Tech Lab Visitors Guidelines

by Garrett Panzer

April 18, 2007

LMS Tech Lab

"Building firm foundations for challenging careers."

The students of the LMS Tech Lab would like to invite members of the community and relatives to visit them in the technology lab by the end of this school year. They would like to show off their activities they've been working on, and I would like for you to have the opportunity to see this "awesome learning experience." Plus, the students will receive extra credit points for their visitors.

The procedures that visitors should follow are:

1.  Contact me (or ask the student) to see what hour they are in class.

2.  Stop by the office and sign the visitor's log.

3.  Help/observe the students during their class period for about 15 minutes or so.

Point scale

100 - group of six or more from the community

80  - school board member(s)

70 - community member(s)

60 - great-grand parent - step great-grand parents

50 - grand parent - step grand parents

40 - mom and/or dad - step mom &/or dad

30 - aunt and/or uncle - step aunt &/or uncle

20 - brother and/or sister - step brother &/or sister

10 - cousin/niece/nephew - step cousin/niece/nephew

General rules:

1.  In case a student does not have relatives in the area, we will video the student working at their Module and they can send it to their relative to watch. Also, the video may be used for any one of the above categories for half credit (half credit because I encourage people to come to the Tech Lab in person). After viewing the tape, the person needs to respond back to me verifying they watched it. My contact information is on the school's web site (www.usd215.org) under "Mr. Panzer's Schedule."

2.  Visiting members are not required to stay the entire class period. However, I encourage them to spend as much time as possible.

3.  Students will receive extra credit points for each person outlined above. Students may bring several people in at once. For example: A student may bring in a mom, a grand parent, and an aunt. The extra credit points this student will earn is 120 points.

4.  I encourage students to bring in as many people as they want to throughout each quarter. There's no limit on the number of "different" people they can bring in.
