About Me

by Garrett Panzer

September 26, 2006

My name is Garrett Panzer. I have been teaching for fourteen years. However, the 2005-2006 school year is my first year of teaching in Lakin.  I teach 7th and 8th grade Tech Lab. Previously, I taught 5th grade at Copeland Elementary School in Copeland, KS. Before that, I student taught in third grade at Trumbull, NE. While at Copeland Elementary, I coached football for South Gray High School for seven years and South Gray Junior High for three years. I also coached JH girls basketball and JH track.  My classroom was also an EETT (Enhancing Education Through Technology) class my last two years there.

I was born in Liberal and lived in the Sublette area for several years before moving to Lakin. My family lived in several different places around Lakin, but I started and finished school here. After graduating from LHS in 1989, I attended Dodge City Community College and graduated with an Associates of Arts degree. While at DCCC, I was active in FCA, Student Ambassadors, and Resident Assistants. I also earned two athletic letters in football from DCCC. In 1992, I transferred to Hastings College in Hastings, NE, and in 1994 I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. While at HC, I was an active member of Beta Chi, intramural sports, and football. I also earned two athletic letters in football while attending HC. I received a Master's degree in Education with and ESOL Emphasis from Fort Hays State University in 2004 and am a member of FHSU Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi.

My family now consists of my wife, Kim, and our two boys, Garrison, 9; Hadley, 5.

Currently, Kim is teaching HS ESL/Read 180 at Lakin HS.  Garrison is a third grader and Hadley is in Kindergarten.

You can contact me at school (620.355.6973) or e-mail at coachpanzer@yahoo.com.  I encourage any one interested in visiting our Tech Lab facility to come in and see what our students are doing with Science, Math, and Reading.  We have a top notch staff here at LMS and this class enhances our students' ability to put the "icing on the cake."  I believe our State Assessment scores can prove that too.
